Major Easy (had to give him a International Brigade badge on his hat -deserves a prequel story )
El Mestizo -Battle picture weeklys American Civil War story El Mestizo created by Alan Hebden and Carlos Ezquerra
Bit of Apocalypse War action featuring Judge Dredd.
Johnny Alpha -Strontium Dog.
Als Baby -wanted to put a rusk in background may of turned half a century but the taste of rusk still lingers in my memory banks
Having a Ton of Fun with Colour Like Carlos colouring book https://www.millsverse.com/carlos/(finally got a scanner for 50th ) Been superbusy not just with these single images but with Star Wars, The Sarge .Anderson PSI Division and Charleys War (Plus gonna try to see if Cam Kennedys Fighting Mann would look any good with my colours ) comic strips which take longer but a few of those pages will appear here over the week
heres a few vids featuring some of Ezquerra's creations and artwork
Not only have been colouring Carlos but found these great portraits by Brian Bolland of 2000ad characters I'm sure BB can do a better job of colouring these as like Carlos Brians one of the artists that got better and better with computer colour but there such great portraits of character including Johnny Alpha ,Slaine and Nemesis the Warlock who are not associated with him -Anyhow I hope you like these .
Really should be a Brian Bolland colouring book too then again like I said earlier the whole comic strip worlds a colouring book
Yep I know it's not Star Wars but Al Williamson is Star Wars as far as I'm concerned but a Blade Runner adaptation re-colour is one of many things on my mind -this cover I may come back to later and seeing as I have the Blade Runner dvd I'd try to colour the story as close to the movie as possible (it would give me a much needed lesson in subtly too) But here's a video all about the 1982 adaptation
I read the comic before seeing the movie on vhs tape many moons ago in Return of the Jedi Weekly back in the days of C.Y.R.I.L pity comics don't have soundtracks..
but onto the main event which is a few more re coloured scans from Newspaper strips Hope you like them.. Story Archie Goodwin -Art Al Williamson .
Colour scheme is mainly influenced by Ralph heres a wee playlist in honor of the great man
Watched Light & Magic series the other week which is well worth investigating if you have Disney Plus - not sure when next Star Wars colouring will drop I'll be colouring lots of things over the weeks (I've had a very productive weekend thx to finding my copy of Colour Like Carlos which will be the subject of a future post but hopefully before Andor season 1 concludes -music from last episode for the space Miami (or Brighton )planet .
Scout Walker sings Jacques Brel lol -learning how to colour with Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson's newspaper strips from 1981- also looking up to the almighty Ralph McQuarrie for inspiration -may do a few more of these as Andor is been streamed.
Hope these aint too crude it's just fun revisiting these times -had no idea what these stories were about at the time as it used to appear in the Sunday Times supplement back in 80's I'd follow the Marvel Comics timeline but I'd see these randomly on various Sundays. Then Dark Horse bought out the excellent Classic Star Wars in early 90s and it made sense -just wanted colour Al who wouldn't.. contemplating colouring Blade Runner -sometimes the whole world feels like one big colouring book lol
Better talk about Andor seeing as I'm in Lucasmode kind of like Space Minder and Lovejoy(Luthen in art dealer disguise) -would like bloke on bus with trilby type that chats to Luthen to have his very own series -I think they should attempt Ken Loach in Star Wars galaxy so Andor is a step in right direction -the dude that looks like Agent Coopers good I wonder howe it goes with his Mother and Mon Montha - I can see a messy divorce -dinner guests from Hell .I hope this dude is present Space Columbo Smurf
Still think they should do Star Adder makes sense to me
Story Gerry Finley Day -Art Mike Western and Mike Dorey (Inks episode 6) It's me birthday today just Hit 50 Feel like Ole Jim here so that's a good thing..smokes like the trooper he is and he knows what he's doing Really great they've printed a volume of The Sarges early adventures in France and North Africa all in its original black and white and colour centre spreads ... mission accomplished I can scan these pages eventually I get a David Lean vibe from North African story line real epic stuff to come colour wise.in the future.
This was gonna be my comic blog but after Summers computer crash I lost password to other blog
http://hipsville365ad.blogspot.com/ (haven't posted since Obi Wan was about to launch) but usual thing I do there is come up with a hip and groovy playlist .. need some sound tonight really celebrating my birthday tommorow with friends and family started this playlist waay back lol
From Strontium Dog: Portrait of a Mutant -colouerd over yesterday and today I want to pay tribute to AALN 1 1 this Dude Droid protecting Tharg the Mighty aka Alan Grant( I bet Jurrissic Park people were fans of his work as well as Pat Mills who they kinda ripped off)
Art Carlos Ezquerra - good likeness with the chin
Young Alan and other Droids-back in hey day - like Nirvana it felt like comics were on the cusp of changing everything - I guess they did - at pleast they impacted the surface (music coulpdn't ht the Death Star either but we are getting there)
Burt 1 what a Dude! according to Saint Martins tutor would of got a job when the dude Burt was around but whoever was editor circa 95 not a chance- great to see him in human form -Ezquerra , Eric Bradbury and possibly Robin Smith are also grande for creating there robot likenesses
God Bless Burt and Brett both awesome
should be one of Alan Grant though as well as Pat and John but you bare all kinds of legend s working for Tharrg
I fell for Judge Anderson soon as I saw her - - my versions fan love just like Blondie same goes with Charley I have real love for it's brillance- good story awesome art -take in what Alans about and maybe we can change this dopey arse world for the better
Here's a wee few examples of Alan's greatness
The Original Button Man - which came out when I was covered in zits and Thatch in a second terrm - these awesome stories alongside thrash metal hard core Dead Kennedys The Smiths and Ramones made life bareable for a 13 year old .
Judge Anderson who I reckon may be based on Alan's wife - I know it's John Wagners creation but he wrote her character with such affection and empathy - there was a 2000ad interview with Alan about Anderson but its gone now never mind.. mind you people still talk about his favourite story on that channel
Too many stories to cover tonight but I will return to Alan seeing as I'm trying to colour early episodes of Judge Anderson (getting a feel for Cliff's art next episode should arrive some time this year- horrible story about schooldays my mate who died was same generation a year older, Just why were people in authority 50's sadisti insane scum? I'm lucky any teacher at my school did that I'd chin them coz I only looked up to my Dad and he taught me to take no shit but met so many people who went through abuse the bastards will pay in hell,
Everyone in 1991 knows this comic-same time as Nevermind good times! Thank you Alan Dude!
yeah computers used to be like that lol- jeezwas that long ago? lol
How I spent my heatwave day.. colouring this old gem -original was very green -but always nice to revisit these old Brian Bolland Eagle covers -and MickMcMahon too -big thx to Chris Weston for posting black and white scan .
Back to summer 1985 - this story and Chopper Supersurf 7 were rockin my universe.
Story : John Wagner/Alan Grant-Art Brett Ewins -Lettering :Tom Frame.
Actually these pages take me back to 2020- I had a long break from colouring this story but came back to it when Covid 19 reared it's ugly mug - rough time lost my best mate -my Mum's future was also uncertain so to deal with such things got back into the colouring -helped me more than swallowing a load of slosh - so I'm thankful that John Alan Brett and Tom created these pages in first place - still working on following episode featuring Cliff Robinson'e artwork - learning things everyday so it'll differ a bit from these pages.
